Allyn Royce Kohlmeyer

Allyn was born on December 2, 1946, to Norman and Bernice (née Schroeder) Kohlmeyer. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Caledonia, Minnesota. Norman and Bernice moved from their hometown, Caledonia, Minnesota, to La Crosse, Wisconsin, where Allyn was born and grew up. Allyn was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where the family attended.
Allyn went to Luther High School in Onalaska, Wisconsin, graduating in 1965. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force. His basic training was at Lackland Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. After his training in Texas, he was transferred to Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Allyn achieved the rank of Sargent, and he taught classes dealing with the F-111A, a medium range ground-attack aircraft. He was discharged in 1969.
Allyn was married to Virginia Mattson from Trempealeau, Wisconsin until 1977. The couple was married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, They had a daughter, Christina Marie, born in 1968 and a son, Matthew Thomas, born in 1972.
After his discharge from the Air Force, Allyn worked for Pet City, managing their store in Aurora. After a few years managing the pet store, he began working at R.T.D. based in Denver. He started as a driver and advanced to Division Supervisor. Allyn continued to work for R.T.D. until his retirement.
He enjoyed working to help others. He was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Denver, where he served on the building committee at a crucial time when the church was getting its own propriety. He worked with several organizations, including the Elks. He was a member of the Aurora Elks Lodge # 1921 for 16 years, serving as exalted ruler in 2003. More recently he volunteered with the Aurora Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association. He also enjoyed building models and working on his house.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Bernice Kohlmeyer, twin nephews, Peter and Paul Barney, and a brother-in-law, Timothy Viner.
He is survived by one daughter, Christina (Steve) Hollister of Aurora, Colorado and one son, Matthew, of Denver, Colorado, as well as two granddaughters, Erika and Elaina Hollister of Aurora, Colorado. He is survived by two sisters, Carmen Viner of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Darla Barney of Onalaska, Wisconsin. Allyn will be remembered for his easy-going attitude and his love of family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
