Elizabeth “Bettie” Kunic

Elizabeth “Bettie” Kunic, Loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away April 13, 2014 at a local assisted living home. Bettie was born Feb 27, 1920 in Zombar, Yugoslavia, and came to the United States when she was one year old. She married her high school sweetheart George in Chicago, on January 25, 1941 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1948.

After high school, Bettie became a comptometer operator. For many years Bettie worked in the accounting dept of Sears, Montgomery Wards and Meadow Gold Dairy. When she retired, Bettie volunteered as a teachers aid for Hoover Elementary in Neenah, WI. At Hoover she taught children with learning disabilities how to read. She was an avid reader, loved doing crafts, gardening and being a caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Kunic, her parents Frank and Luisa Neugebauer, two brothers, Frank Neugebauer, Donald Neubauer, and a sister Lucy O’Connor.

She is survived by her daughters Virginia (Wes) Whitley, Barbara Weaver; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Susan, Rosanne and six great-grandchildren, Amber, Amanda, Jared, Caitlin, Ryan and Naysa and one great-great-grandson, Blake.

Funeral arrangements have been made by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation, 6922 N. Academy Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO. Bettie will be buried along side George at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, at a later date.
