Michael Dean King
November 5, 1945 :: Grand Rapids, Michigan
June 12, 2014 :: Lakewood, Colorado
Michael Dean King passed away on June 12, 2014.He was preceded in death by his father Russell King, mother Velva King Madsen, stepfather Alf Madsen, and brother Gary King.
Michael graduated from Grand Rapids High School and left to join the Navy and see the world. He served aboard “tin cans”, submarines, river boats in Vietnam, and the U.S.S. America aircraft carrier. He moved to Colorado to be with his brother Gary and his family. In Colorado he enjoed lots of fishing, hiking, and elk hunting. He met Pam Hutchcraft on April 1, 1977. Four months later they married, and he became step-father to her three kids. They had another girl the next year. After two years, Pam called the Navy recruiter to see about re-enlisting him. She said he wasn’t happy living in the civilian world. He signed up with the reserves and transferred to the regular Navy. It was the best choice they ever made. He got to see the world, sail six of the seven seas; North Atlantic and Antarctica. 2013 and 2014 had been a rough time for him. Michael spent more time in the hospital than home. He will be greatly missed by his spouse Pamela (July 23, 2014 would have been their 37th anniversary), his five kids and their spouses, eighteen grandkids and 14 great-grandkids.
Until we are “On The Road Again” this is a long deployment. Tell them to sent the big tugs out to bring your ship to the pier.
