Stuart Nicholas “Mac” MacMillan
November 23, 1935 :: in Sheffield, England
August 2, 2015 :: in Denver, Colorado
Tougher than woodpecker lips to the very end, Stuart “Mac” MacMillan peacefully died in his sleep at his home in Denver, the morning of August 2, 2015. He was 79 years old. His earliest years were spent developing his skills as a wily street urchin in order to survive the Nazi blitz in Sheffield, England and Clydebank, Scotland. Following World War II, he, his younger sister Rae, and their parents immigrated to Laramie, Wyoming in 1947. After brief stints in secondary school in both Laramie and Cheyenne, Mac enlisted in the United States Army in 1955. Serving for 12 years, his duties took him overseas, to both Europe and Southeast Asia. Halfway through his military service, he was proudly granted American citizenship in 1962. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1967, Mac became a truck driver, spending most of his career (25 years) working for Consolidated Freightways out of North Platte and Lincoln, Nebraska and Las Vegas, Nevada. Following his retirement from CF, Mac and his wife Maureen returned to Nebraska where they enjoyed a quiet life in countryside along the North Platte River before moving to Denver in 2014.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Charles (Scotty) MacMillan of Laramie, Wyoming. He is survived by his devoted sister Rae Gill of Wheatland, Wyoming and his loving wife of 57 years, Maureen (Knight) MacMillan of Denver, Colorado. Additionally, Mac is survived and greatly missed by all of his children and his many, many grandchildren, including daughters Barbara Collins of North Platte, Nebraska and Jill MacMillan of Stevenson Ranch, California; sons Nick MacMillan of Ocean View, Hawaii; Charlie MacMillan of North Platte, Nebraska; Dan MacMillan of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Vince MacMillan of Dolores, Colorado.
